KwaZulu Natal kid
	I was born in Uitenhage SA, but it wasn't long before my family moved up to Durban, situated on the KwaZulu Natal coastline. Through my youth, I participated in all kinds of sporting escapades, competing on the Judo mat, to the football field to the rugby field, and the swimming pool. However, water became my playground, and my timeout, as a kid, would be spending as much time as I could in the surf with friends.     The first time I picked up a paddle was when I moved to Johannesburg in 2004. In amongst a couple triathlons, I competed in all the river kayak races in SA. With developing a competency in the boat and having a passion for the sea, I became instantly hooked on surf-ski paddling when I moved back to Durban in 2005.
