Day 3 in Bali. Low tide this morning here at Balangan beach with a small 2-3 ft wave lapping the outer reef. Happy to kick back up here at the Seaview lodge around the swimming pool and enjoy a Balaian style breakfast while waiting on the forecast 5 star swell to arrive later today.

The first 2 days in Bali for me and Stevo were some crazy times in Kuta. A combination of the jet-lag, coupled with the local "jungle juice" punch that they served us at the Bounty made for serious looseness. Photo's tell the story. Heading off on the scooter in a minute to scout the surf up at Padang and Impossibles.

Day 4 and into the surf at Uluwati's. Clean conditions breaking at around 3ft. Beautiful sunny conditions and fun peaks make it an attractive surfing venue for anyone staying near the Southern beaches and hence you can expect it to get a little crowded. On my closing wave of the dayI decided that I wantd to get a little barrel to end off a fun day's surfing. I unfortunately didn't account for the fact that the inside hollowed peaks come shallow in with some energy onto the reef. So with a small barrel, I also managed to achieve breaking my board square in the middle. Ouch.

Day 5 and the swell arrived. Steve and I took full advantage of the 6th + sets coming through at Ulu's once again. Racetracks is a wave that peaks at the furthest point down the line-up at Ulu's and the one that was operating best with the Southerly swell that day. Big lumps of water pushing through made the take-off a little unpredictable, but given the right position, you were rewarded with a solid wall of water runningd own the coast..

The swell cleaned progressively through to the weekend, with Sat being probably the finest conditions of the trip. A little smaller in size, but cleaner and hollowed than days prior. Steve scored Padang with overhead barrels, while I stayed Bingin way and enjoyed the consistent peak and running barrels.

Although the reef along the Bali coasts are not as sharp as other breaks in Indo, it will certainly still punish you for any small mistake. I managed to get away with anything too serious, but still paid the price for being caught on the inside on a couple occasions. Cuts on my hands, feet and across my entire back are awesome souvenirs to take home with me.
